Casual summer hog roast wedding at Olton Mere Sailing Club

Last summer, our clients wanted a casual, no-stress wedding at their local sailing club in Olton Mere near Solihull…. with four months’ notice! Four months is a relatively short period to plan a wedding, but it can be done.

The couple had tasted our food at a previous event, so it was our pleasure to be considered to cater for their 80 guests. Being ‘foodies’, they really wanted to wow their guests so we greeted them with a grazing table of our anti pasti including breads, cured meats, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes and mozzarella. Grazing boards were a big hit with the wedding party as they’d been at the ceremony for a few hours and were ready to eat straight away which meant no champagne on an empty stomach. This gave our couple the opportunity to relax and take photographs knowing their guests were taken care of.

Once the drinks reception was well under way we started our hot canape service straight from the BBQ. Guests enjoyed South African Boerewors sausage bites smothered in Mrs Balls’ Chutney, lamb lollipops with mint sauce and our chef’s favourite, Surf ‘n’ Turf including Frank Parkers rump steak, king prawns and a tangy chimichurri all served by our wait staff.

Next up was of course the main event, our delicious hog roast cooked for around seven hours then pulled to serve on fresh bread rolls with stuffing and plenty of Stokes Apple Sauce. In keeping with the casual feel of their day, the couple opted to have the hog roast served by our wait staff from a hot buffet rather than on platters served at tables. This meant guests could collect their own food and could take a seat wherever they liked; most guests opted for shady spots under the trees with a nice view of the water. Buffet service is certainly less formal than table service but no less attentive, our staff were on hand to assist guests with mobility issues and to clear away afterwards.
